IST Austria is committed to conducting world-class research and we have organized all high-end equipment into scientific service units. Daniel is working as an EM Technician taking care of sample preparation, user trainings, maintenance of our equipment and method development in the field of EM sample preparation.
His winning image is an Scanning electron microscopy image of the surface of frozen daisy with clearly visible pollen (Bellis perennis), colored in photoshop. This image was captured with Zeiss FE-SEM Merlin VP Compact in IST Austria, Klosterneuburg, 2017
“The particular story behind the winning image is funny, as we normally never take pretty pictures with our equipment. There was a visit of one of our local elementary school classes planned, so we did a little event with the kids where we gathered the sample in our park and prepped it for the SEM and then streamed everything live into the lecture hall via smartphone camera so the kids could see us at work. The resulting image was so nice that I had a go at coloring it in Photoshop.”
