High field MRI
While most of clinical MRI instruments operate at less than 3 Tesla, the use of higher fields allows to get great improvements in sensitivity, image resolution and scan rates. MRS also benefits of higher fields due to increased spectral separation between different chemical species. At the clinical level, scanners at 3 Tesla and more (up to 7) are used. For the study of small/medium animals there are less technical constraints linked to field homogeneity, and MRI scanners operating at 7-9.4 Tesla and even above are available
