MRI/PET
In respect to MRI, nuclear techniques are much more sensitive, but they yield less resolved images and lack of anatomic information. For this reason, the two modalities are often associated. In (micro)MRI-PET, MRI and PET images are acquired sequentially, in the same session, and combined into a single superimposed (co-registered) image, where MRI provides the soft tissue anatomical information and PET provides the functional/molecular information.
Multi-modal probes, containing both a MRI paramagnetic agent and a radionuclide, can be used.
